Our House Tour

Red Kitchen - view from coming up the stairs from the front door

To the right of the kitchen is our office and bathroom. To the left is the dining room, living room, and more stairs.

Office

Red and Brown 1/2 bath that is off the kitchen and office.

Dining room, then kitchen, then office in the back (the 1/2 bath is to the left of the office). Stairs are on the right of the kitchen to go down to the foyer and garage.

One side of the living room. (outside porch is to the left)

Other side of the living room. (stairs go to the bedrooms) The cords and bunny ears won't always be there. Once we get cable, the cords will hopefully be in the wall. Isn't it funny that the bunny ears have to face down for us to pick up a few channels (ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX I think).

Guest room /video game room

Black Friday

Our Drop & Shop today was a flop, so I really missed shopping with my sister. We were able to make it to Target this afternoon, and that made me happy. Surprisingly, it wasn't really picked over so we were able to get some $3 and $6 DVD, a $6 long sleeve shirt for me, and a scarf/hat/glove set for only $6. The receipt said we saved over $32!!! I was able to get my shopping fix and not spend too much money.

The rest of today, we walked around Olde Town Arvada and lounged around. Right now we are literally waiting for snow. The news said it's coming tonight in about 2 hours.

Also, Thomas said today that he needed to borrow Jacob's shirt. Do you think it'll fit him?

Happy Thanksgiving!

Even though we aren't with all of our family this year for thanksgiving, we have so much to be thankful for! Thank you to each and everyone of you who continue to offer your love, support, and prayers. We are doing well, but missing you all very much (especially today). Have a wonderful day and enjoy your feast!

P.S. I will miss shopping with you tomorrow, Angela. If you are still going, get some good deals for me. I will be working at 6 a.m. for parents to drop off the kids while they go to the stores I want to be at. (You have to have the money to be able to save the money, though, so I wouldn't be shopping this year anyway.) Have fun out there!!!

got mud?

This car we passed on the highway the other day reminded us of Micah (Juli's brother). He likes to go mud'n in his car, so..... Micah, beat this. ;) We miss you and your muddy truck/jeep!

Static

Margaret and Natalie (Thomas' mom and sister) made it here safely! We are sooo excited we have visitors and someone to share Thanksgiving with. We had to warn them about the static electricity we have here, though. We are SHOCKING (haha, I'm funny)! Here's a picture of Thomas' beanie sticking to the seat in the car.

Our Weekend

After it snowed on Friday, it was a beautiful weekend. Saturday, we took a trip "into town". That term reminds me of the olden days, but it used around here in Colorado. Living in Florida, we drove all over to different cities (Zellwood, Mt. Dora, Apopka, Orlando, Altamonte Springs, etc). Here in Arvada, everything is so close that "going into town" is a big deal. The town I am talking about is Denver, and it was only 20min away (haha).

Saturday we went to Denver to go to a store called R.E.I. (gift cards available online... holiday hint). After we shopped and bought Thomas some snow pants, we started walking down this nice trail that was in between a creek and rail road tracks. This path brought us to many must-see places in Denver (and some other fun photos).

Wooden Roller Coaster

Mile High Stadium - where the Broncos play (football)

Water Park - open in the Summer

We had some more time off on Sunday (not many birthday parties are booking right now), so we continued enjoying the outdoors. After a walk through the streets of Olde Town Arvada near our house (similar to downtown winter park but with a little more history and older shops), we went on a 7 mile bike ride to and from the gym. That ride was tough with 3 steep hills, and took us well over an hour and a half!
Sunday evening, we went over to the Roche's (our friends from West Palm Beach) house for dinner. It was sooo nice to see them (it had been 2 1/2 years)! Their house was something you would find in Baldwin Park. The kids seemed to remember us deep down, and were so excited to see us! We have already planned to do more things with the family, but it is still hard to believe that we live by them again here in Colorado. It'll be great, though!
Next weekend is pretty open, too. We will be making plans and keeping you posted when our adventures continue...

I made a snowball!

When we woke up this morning, it was snowing!!! Thomas looked out the window and called me over. Snow was already on the ground and more was falling. I was soooo excited and ran outside to take pictures without my snow jacket on. I wasn't even that cold, as I was to happy to see the snow. I only had time to take a few photos before we had to run off to work. The sad thing was, the snow stopped and was melted away before lunch time. It is still cold, but sunny now. Next time it snows, hopefully we will have time to play in it and get more pictures.

... I am so thankful we have a garage and we didn't have to scrape off the snow like these guys!

See the snow? (I didn't really have a good background to show how much was falling)

Random things I'm Learning...

  • I am a perfectionist (I wouldn't have admitted that before).

  • You have to do more laundry in cold weather because of all the layers you wear.
  • We take so much for granted: Disney, Sea World, family gatherings, etc.

  • Your spouse is (or should be) your best friend!

  • Some people don't like change.

  • You can live without TV - and it's amazing how much other things you get done without it.

  • It can snow in Colorado as late as March and on.

  • Snow skiing is expensive; stick to water sports if you can!

  • I miss sweet tea a lot.

  • Word of mouth is the best free advertising (and email blasts).

  • Cleaning windows with a clean rag doesn't leave smudges like paper towels do.
  • Lotion doesn't always cure dry skin.

  • My city (Arvada, CO) is the celery capital of the world.

  • Static is a real problem.

  • Chalkboard paint is the neatest thing (pictures will be posted soon).

  • Lizards must not live in Colorado.

  • Things will get done somehow, one step at a time.

  • It is okay to ask for help.

  • It's so important to stay in touch with friends, but sometimes it's the hardest thing to make time to do.

  • Washing mesh bags full of ball pit balls is not fun in the cold.

  • It is so much easier to cook dinner everynight (instead of eating out) when you live 2 miles away from work instead of 20 miles.

  • Days go by so fast.

  • You really do learn something new everyday.....

Halloween Party

This is a week late, but I finally had time to put these pictures up. If you can't tell, Thomas is The Cat In The Hat and Juli is a 50's Girl in a poodle skirt.

Business

So it has been 1 month as owners. And good news... we are still open! We are realizing we took over a gym that was ran very poorly. We have had to reinstate policies and programs that the members are not used to. Most of them have been so excepting, and then a few have complained or cancelled over the stupidest of things. Those people must not like change, but like I said, the majority have been so warm and welcoming to us. They like the structure that we bring to classes now and are excited about the improvements we are making.

Last weekend, we even painted the gym. A big room with white walls is not fun for kids; even I was getting bored. There is now a red wall (4 coats), yellow wall (2 coats), green wall (3 coats), purple wall (2 coats), blue wall (2 coats), and soon to be an orange wall. The thing is, after painting for two days, we both ended up with the stomach flu (not cool!). We had to run classes with the red and purple walls still needed another coat of paint. I wasn't happy about this, but our bodies were obviously telling us to take a break. The members have been really understanding of the unfinished walls, and it has actually made them realize that WE did them ourselves (instead of hiring someone). That was nice because people our seeing that we are always at the gym and have more of a commitment to the community than the previous owner did.

Our enrollment numbers haven't sky-rocketed through the roof yet, but we have held almost everyone who was here (besides the ones who don't like change or wouldn't give us a chance). New people are slowly coming in once they hear the buzz around town of the new owners (us). Our reginal director from corporate is coming to run classes with us tomorrow and then stay for meeting to set up a marketing plan and everything. We have already put new classes and events on the schedule, and I am excited about setting up a plan cheep ways to spread the word more in the area and possibly set a date for an open house the beginning of next year.

Thank you to everyone who has been so understanding about how busy we are. We love the work, but don't ever want to cut you guys short. Stay tuned for pictures from our Halloween parties that we had here at the gym and before/after pictures of what we did to the gym's look once we finish it all!

Happy Birthday Micah!

Micah,

We can't believe you are 18 today... wow, my "little" brother is 18! We were really thinking of you on Tuesday and how much you probably wanted to go vote, but now you will be able to soon enough. Also, since you sold your Focus, you have more money than we do right now, so buy yourself something nice from us. HA! For real, though, when you get to come visit us sometime, we will take care of you and pay for everything! Have a wonderful day, and we will try to talk to you once you are out of school this afternoon. We love you lots, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY old man!
